Interactive Maps

One of the strongest outputs of the project is the pair of interactive map interfaces presented alongside the network analysis. These maps translate the cleaned archival data into spatial narratives and make the project accessible beyond static charts.

Correspondence Map

The first interactive map is a correspondence globe. In the version shown in the final presentation, it visualises 88 correspondence records across 53 locations and 57 connections from 1951 to 1993. The interface includes a year filter, country legend, statistical summary, animated link lines, and a right-hand detail panel that displays item-level archival context. Visually, the map makes the United States the dominant hub while also showing links to Europe, India, Japan, and China.

Comention Map

The second interactive map, titled “Journey of Yang,” uses the cleaned photo and location data to trace Yang’s life trajectory from 1924 to 2006. The bilingual interface includes a timeline slider, archival image panel, and location-based pop-up details. Based on the cleaned datasets currently in the folder, this map draws on 107 confirmed geocoded records across 63 places. It is especially effective for showing how Yang’s movement and public presence shifted between early-life China, postwar US institutions such as Princeton and Stony Brook, and later connections to Hong Kong and Mainland China.
