Impacts

HIST4702 (2022-23) Digital History Project: SARS in Asia

Welcome to the “Impacts of SARS” page!

We have several works contributing to this page:

SARS hit Hong Kong severely in terms of health and economy. The data analysis group compared the social and economic impacts of SARS on Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Singapore using data covering these regions’ economy, tourism, transportation and population changes.

To learn more about the social impacts of SARS on Hong Kong, the video group interviewed Professor Luk Chi Hung Gary and Dr. Fok Yeung Yeung. Both of them are teaching staff in the Chinese University of Hong Kong specializing in the history of Hong Kong.

Using Voyant Tools Cirrus and Links, the text-mining group presented the most frequent words and their relationships in SARS-related texts.  They presented the economic and social impacts of SARS on Hong Kong.

Our Works

Video Documentary

We are greatly honored to have two in-school historians as interviewees to talk about the SARS. We asked what are their opinions on the impacts of SARS in Hong Kong society?

Text Mining of Impacts

How can words be used to deliver a historical insight of SARS, such as regarding the social and economic aspects surrounding this virus?

Data Analysis of Impacts

By collecting data from SARS, we will review the impacts brought by the virus through its effects on Economy, Aviation, Tourism, Population, to engage a deeper analysis.

Comparing Data in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Guangdong

How did different cities suffer from SARS? We try to show explanatory arguments through a cross-sectional comparsion!
